We’ve all seen it that cute dog with its head stuck out of the window, ears flapping in the wind, but did you know that you could be breaking the law

The Highway Code states that drivers need to ensure:

‘dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so that they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop too quickly’

Not having your dog either restrained, in a dog harness or in a crate could even invalidate your insurance

For the insurance companies The law is clear :

“You must secure your animal while in a car”

If you don’t do this and your dog roaming freely around the vehicle is said to have contributed to causing an accident, then your insurance company could be well within their rights not to pay out on a claim.

So before you get in the car remember to secure your dog properly either with Seat Belt Harness or in a secure crate, not just for your safety, but more importantly for their safety, remember a dog’s not going to brace itself in the event of an accident, so please ensure you secure your furry friends when they go for a ride.
